HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR RUN TIME REQUIREMENT

(PLEASE READ)

You can ESTIMATE the POWER CONSUMPTION of your APPLIANCES by looking at the RATING PLATE, for example, at the rear of a TV or on the Power Supply for a Notebook Computer). Always refer to output specifications, this could be for example: 19.5VDC, 3.3A 19.5V X 3.3A = max of 65W

TYPICAL LOADS IMPOSED BY VARIOUS APPLIANCES (NB. Apply Diligence, these can vary Considerably!):

COMPUTERS

A Standard Windows Corporate Laptop / Notebook generally draws +/- 65W (New Dell type 15” laptop)

Gaming and High End Power User Notebooks generally use +-130W, but can require far more power. Always check the power requirements for Gaming Laptops with Due Diligence!

Remember to take into account the Power Requirements of ALL PERIPHERALS such as 2nd Screens! A second PC screen (24” LCD / LED) is generally +-26W – 50W.

Normal Workstation PC’s generally use +- 250 to 350W (Remember to Add the Rating of The Power Supply AND the Screen!).
Gaming PC’s generally use +- 400W – 700W, but can require far more power. Always check the power requirements for Gaming PC’s with Due Diligence!
Wireless Routers generally use 6 – 30 Watts
CPE Boxes generally use 18 – 30 Watts
VOIP Phones generally use 3 – 10 Watts for the wireless base and generally 3W for the VOIP phone  charger (single home voip phone)
LED Desk Lamp is generally: 5W

TELEVISION

Television Sets require Due Diligence in estimating Power Requirements. A Modern LED Smart TV is generally +-80W – 125W, however, Older LCD (and especially Plasma) Television Sets DRAW FAR MORE POWER.
DSTV PVR Decoders generally draw +-45W
Cell phone chargers are generally +-20W – 40W
Soundbars generally draw +-65W for the smaller units, however, Surround Sound systems can easily draw in excess of be 750W!
Laser printers can use 300 – 550W+
Please note that any appliance with an ac motor may require up to 6 X running current for Magnetization Inrush Current at Start Up (Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, Pumps, Compressors, Power Tools, Fans etc.). We therefore Recommend CAUTION AND DILLIGENCE when connecting to any Inverter Kit.
Do not connect High Power Appliances such as coffee machines, kettles, irons, geysers, arc welding machines, heaters etc.

BATTERY LONGEVITY (LIFE) EXPECTATION

The DC31 battery has a One Year CARRY IN LIMITED MANUFACTURER'S manufacturer’s warranty  / 200-300 Cycles @ 80 % Depth of Discharge in Leisure / Marine Use.

HOWEVER, WHEN APPLIED ON LOADSHEDDING INVERTERS, THE MANUFACTURER'S LIMITED CARRY IN WARRANTY IS REDUCED TO  6 MONTHS / 250 CYCLES (WHICHEVER FIRST) DUE TO THE ABNORMAL WEAR AND TEAR SUFFERED UNDER LONG PERIODS OF SUSTAINED AND REPETITIVE STAGE 4 - 6 LOADSHEDDING EVENTS! This translates roughly to 200-300 Loadshedding Events of 2.5 - 4 Hours Duration (Dependent on load).

Failure to allow Sufficient Recharge Time between Loadshedding Events to achieve at least 90 % State of Charge results in ABNORMAL WEAR AND TEAR  due to the battery continuously and repetitively operating in the lower band of State of Charge. An analogy would be operating the Pneumatic Tyres on your car at low pressure (Voltage is "Electrical Pressure")

Fully Discharged Batteries take +- 8 – 16 Hours to fully recharge at the recommended charge rate of 10 % of Capacity. (+-10A Charge on a Wet Cell Calcium Deep Cycle Battery)

During Periods of Sustained Stage 5 and higher Load Shedding Events we would suggest reducing loads to bare minimum items needed / turning the inverter output off if not in use / Increasing battery capacity to 4 X batteries and charging current to 20A per battery.
